A professor who launched a primary challenge against Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, outraised the incumbent congresswoman by nearly $400,000 during the second quarter of this year.

Tim Canova, who has the backing of Sen. Bernie Sanders, raised $1.7 million over the past three months while Wasserman Schultz raised $1.3 million.

Although President Obama has publicly expressed his support for the Florida lawmaker, Wasserman Schultz has come under fire for her leadership of the party during a presidential primary race that left some progressive voters feeling shortchanged.

For example, Wasserman Schultz presided over the DNC’s decision to limit the number of primary debates, a move seen as helpful to Hillary Clinton’s chances over Sanders.

The Democratic primary in Wasserman Schultz’s district will be held Aug. 30.
