Debunking the Lies of Donald Trump

Donald Trump is one of those people who covers his own lies by accusing others of lying.  Calling anyone a liar is a serious charge because it means the person is knowingly telling a falsehood.  Donald Trump has lied a lot and neither the Republican candidates or the media have taken him on over it for reasons known only to them.  Here are just a few of the most glaring examples.

TRUMP ACCUSES CRUZ OF BEING PART OF THE DC ESTABLISHMENT

Ted Cruz has never been part of the Washington Establishment.  He’s not even part of the GOP establishment.  When Ted Cruz ran for US Senator from Texas, he had to challenge the darling of the GOP establishment in Texas, Lt. Governor, David Dewhurst.  Dewhurst was favored by governor Rick Perry.  This type of insurgency, effectively not waiting your turn, put Cruz at odds with the GOP establishment.

Just this week, Rush Limbaugh, who has remained neutral and not favored any candidate, came to the defense of Ted Cruz in the face of Trump’s outrageous lies.

TRUMP ACCUSES CRUZ AND RUBIO OF BEING INELIGIBLE FOR PRESIDENCY

To become President, one must be a “natural born American.”  That term has never been fully defined, but courts over the years have never defined it so well all the potential gray areas in the law have been rendered explicit.  And even when confronted with such gray areas, courts have been generous interpreting the meaning of that term in a more expansive rather than a more narrow.  Still, that did not stop Trump from categorically declaring Cruz and Rubio “have a problem.”  To begin with, even under the strictest interpretation, nobody can state with any certainty that Cruz and Rubio are not eligible to be President.  There is no way for Trump to know that and he is well aware of it.

Furthermore, if Trump truly believes Cruz and Rubio aren’t eligible, he could virtually assure himself the GOP nomination by filing suit against them.  If the court agrees with Trump, Cruz and Rubio would be swept out of the race, clearing Trump’s path to the nomination.  The fact that Trump doesn’t file suit is proof that he doesn’t believe his own claims.  He knows he’s lying.

TRUMP CLAIMS HE NEVER SAID HE FAVORED SINGLE PAYER HEALTHCARE OR SOCIALIZED MEDICINE

In a 60 Minutes interview with Scott Pelle, Trump said he wanted “government to pay for healthcare.”  Government acting as the lone or single payer for healthcare is the very definition of socialized medicine.  But in the CNN Republican debate on February 25th, when asked by Ted Cruz if he favored a single payer, universal healthcare system paid for by the government, Donald Trump said, “no.”  A blatant lie.

Donald Trump is not being honest with the American people.  Before too many Americans waste their votes on this man, he needs to be held accountable.  But holding a politician accountable when he has fanatical, uncritical supporters who accept every word he says is a tall order.  Trump supporters need to understand that he will be a better candidate if he’s not sure his supporters will remain loyal to him, “even if he shoots someone.”
